Fargo has a little bit of everything for everyone: great food scene, awesome breweries, and unique sightseeing. To our surprise, lots of places don’t close till midnight or even later! So if you are a night owl, Fargo will be perfect for you. For those of you that didn’t know, Fargo actually is one big community with it’s neighbor Moorhead, Minnesota. Both cities/states are divided by a river, but in general they act as one. We hope this quick bucket list will help you plan out your next Midwest adventure.
Kam and I are always looking for quirky and different stays than your typical hotel. This hotel was perfect for the weekend getaway and was super close to the zoo. After exploring the city all day, take a dip in one of the jacuzzies and enjoy a night beverage.
Being animal lovers, we are always careful with visiting and advertising institutions that have animals of any sort. This place is incredible! Sally, who is the President of the zoo, gave us an insightful tour of the entire place and we couldn’t be more thankful for her time. You can truly see her passion and love for the animals. It is a smaller facility, and their focus is not based on profits, but rather making sure the animals are comfortable, have adequate space and support. All their accomplishments were possible through donations and volunteer work. So, make sure to stop by, and show support for the wonderful work they have done so far and continue on doing.
3. Go brewery hopping
Fargo/Moorhead area has endless brew hopping opportunities and each place is unique in it’s own way. Fargo brewing has a great variety of beer, huge space, and a barber onsite (yep you read that right!). So if you are in need of a quick touch up while grabbing a beer, you are certainly in the right spot. Junkyard Brewing specializes in making experimental beers and their tap menu rotates very often. Drekker Brewing is located at Brewhalla which is a huge food and entertainment building. We loved the spacious interior, variety of beer, and all the pinball action that was taking place.
4. Mural sightseeing
We love a good photo opp, so what is better than taking a stroll around the city looking for the best wall art. There are lots of cool murals, but the two must stops are: Greetings from Fargo mural due to its colorful vibes, and the Mario mural, because how can you not stop by here and have a blast taking the perfect shot!
If you are looking for great food (whether lunch or dinner) and a cool, colorful vibe, than Pounds will offer just that! They have lots of space, retro interior, and variety of drink and food options. Located right in the city, it’s the perfect spot to grab some grub while exploring.
Come and explore variety of vintage and new aircrafts on display. It is a great place for kids and adults to learn more about different types of planes and their history, some dating back to World War 2 era. Tickets are $15 and you can spend as much time as you’d like. There are lots of interactive exhibits one of them being a flight simulator lab (you can book it separately on their website).
We love a good winery and Bear Creek did not disappoint. We were in awe of the winery’s grounds and the rustic atmosphere it had to offer. Dry wines is our go to and Bear Creek sure did not disappoint since we left with couple bottles to bring with us home.
As mentioned before, Brewhalla is a multi-level market with hotel, brewery, entertainment, food and shopping. It has a cool industrial chic vibe and lots to offer so that you can spend hours hanging out.
I feel like cider bars are so hard to find, luckily Fargo did not disappoint, and Wild Terra offered a wide variety of cider. I loved the interior, especially that every corner was photo opp ready. My suggestion is to grab a flight so that you can try different types of cider and see what you like best.
Whether you are attending a concert, going to ride a roller coaster or just hanging out with friends, Red River Fair has it all. Check their calendar for events that are happening and make sure not to miss it. They even have campgrounds across the street for those with RVs or campers.
Fargo-Moorhead is a hidden gem of Midwest. Whether you are spending a weekend here or driving through it, we hope this quick list helps narrow down some of the places you should visit while in town.
XoXo
Adri & Kam
