If you are looking for a town that celebrates its beautiful beaches and has tons of family-friendly activities, then look no further and come to Manitowoc! Home to a submarine that you can tour, where a sand sculpting competition takes place, and where night life boasts every evening: Manitowoc has lots to offer and more. We list our top 10 places that you need to add if you plan on visiting!

Who thought you could explore a submarine, right here in Manitowoc? Certainly, one-of-a-kind experience that makes for the perfect bucket list activity. It was incredible to see the living conditions and what every day looked like for those on board. Additionally, you get to explore Wisconsin’s Maritime Museum where you can learn more about ship building, shipwrecks and marine life. It is a very interactive place and not to be missed.

2.Savor the sunshine at West of Lake Gardens

These gardens are the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of these grounds. There are over 63 types of different roses planted here, which is so incredible! Located right by the shore of Lake Michigan, this spot makes for the best place to relax with a blanket and a book. It is highly recommended to take off your shoes and walk barefoot on this immaculate grass.

3.Move your body at The Wharf

If you are looking for a great time along with awesome cocktails, then The Wharf will not disappoint. It is a waterfront bar which has a huge patio and serves food, so whether you are looking just to grab a drink or are hungry and want to grab some grub, this place is it! When we visited, it seemed like the whole town was here, so you know it’s the place to be!

4.Bike Mariners’ Trail

You can easily rent bikes from the marina and then take them on a ride along the shore of Lake Michigan. Mariners’ Trail has over 6 miles of bike path which connects Manitowoc with Two Rivers, which is the next door. We always say that biking in a new place is a must as you get to truly enjoy where you are by covering more ground. The bike path is very well maintained, and you are constantly by the lake, which is super relaxing. There are also small spots with gorgeous sculptures and flowers that make for a great photo opp.

5.Vote for your favorite creation at the Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Competition

Did you know you can compete by sculpting in sand?! Well, if you didn’t, you know now, make sure to mark your calendar for next year! Manitowoc hosts this yearly, and it is so much fun to see others get super creative with just sand and inspiration. The contest is held for professionals but also amateurs as well, so if you think you got what it takes, definitely sign up for next year! There is also lots of fun entertainment, live music, food trucks and more, so you can easily spend couple hours here.

6.Grab some brews at PetSkull Brewing and/or Craft Creek Brewing

Manitowoc has great night life scene and amongst many options, two stood out to us that are worth visiting. PetSkull Brewing operates in a building that was built 1908 (wild right?!) and serves over 20 beers on tap and has live music almost every other day. I highly recommend bringing your own lawn chair as these events get quite busy because the bands are THAT good! Craft Creek Brewing is the newest addition to Manitowoc, and everyone can agree they are so glad they opened! Their space is very homey and there are plenty of different styles of beer that will satisfy anyone. The staff is super kind, and you can tell they are inspired by what they do.

7. Visit Rahr-West Art Museum and check out where Sputnik IV crashed

This museum is one of Manitowoc’s most visited places. You can view work of famous artists such as Picasso or Warhol and enjoy amazing art collection. There is no fee to enter, and parking is also free. Additionally, you can find the exact spot where Sputnik IV crashed right here as well! There is a small plaque right next to it as well so you can read a little bit about the history. Makes for the perfect fun fact at your next friends’ dinner party :D

8.Enjoy breakfast at Brunch & Bloom and/or Retro Eighth Coffee

Just like having plenty of nightlife options, Manitowoc also has great dining options, especially for breakfast. Brunch & Bloom recently opened and serves homemade deliciousness that will make you come back for more. If you can’t decide, make sure to grab their French Toast as you cannot go wrong with it and you will absolutely love it. For those that like Acai bowls and smoothies, Retro Eighth Coffee is the perfect location to savor just that. We really liked their retro styled interior along with eclectic wall art. Make sure to get the Chipotle Aristotle bagel: YUM!

9. Go out for a drink with a river view at Waterfront Wine Bar

Let’s make one thing clear: yes, it’s a wine bar but we were craving Margaritas which are also delicious! So clearly you cannot go wrong regardless of what you order. They also serve food options which are also one of a kind. If you are looking to enjoy the breeze from the river and watch the boats pass by as you sip on your favorite beverage, then Waterfront Wine Bar will give you just that!

10. Explore downtown Manitowoc

Downtown Manitowoc has lots of cute shops, fun murals, and a gorgeous riverfront that is worth adding to your visit. You will find antiques, unique souvenirs and boutiques, so that regardless of what you are looking for, you will have plenty of options. Couple of shops that we recommend visiting: Heart & Homestead, The Flower Gallery, Beernstsen’s Confectionary and Manitowoc Antique Mall.
