Wisconsin Dells, A Perfect Weekend Getaway

We all know Wisconsin Dells is the place to be during summer months with all the waterparks and outdoor activities. But how about spending the weekend during cooler months? It may surprise you to learn that there is still plenty to do! Hopefully, the itinerary below helps you plan out your next visit to The Waterpark Capital of the World!®.

Where To stay?

Wisconsin Dells has plenty of resorts, so there’s always something for everyone, however, you will most likely not get this kind of view anywhere else! The Vue is located just a 2-minute walk from downtown Wisconsin Dells, has views for days, offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has cozy amenities like a sauna. What more could you want? :)

Where To Eat?

Keep in mind that during cooler months, some restaurants may be closed for the season, so make sure you triple check hours of operations at wisdells.com. There are still plenty of options that are quite frankly—difficult to pick from, since everything looks so good!

MACS - Macaroni and Cheese Shop is made for all the cheese lovers out there. I had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and Kam tried the Mac Daddy, which was a large skillet of mac and cheese with your choice of toppings. It was incredible!

The Del-Bar: THIS is the place to be when grabbing dinner in Wisconsin Dells. We loved the cozy atmosphere and delicious food! They specialize in steaks, but do not overlook their seafood dishes because they will surprise you. We will not share all the details because you need to check it out for yourself. One small suggestion for all the seafood lovers out there: If you do end up going to The Del-Bar, make sure to grab their Rockefeller oysters as an appetizer. You won’t be disappointed!

Bella Goose Coffee: There are two locations that serve up tasty options. They make their own yummy smoothies and amazing fresh breakfast food. For all our coffee aficionados, their coffee is delicious! We couldn’t help but grab a couple bags of coffee to bring home.

Lake City Social: Perfect escape for a great dining experience that serves delicious comfort food with their own spin. We both ordered tacos because they looked irresistible every time the waiters passed by with a full tray of them. And let me tell you something, we were satisfied with our choice.

Where To Enjoy Nightlife?

Whether you are looking to grab a nightcap or party all night long, you will have plenty of options to pick from!

Redd’s Piano Bar and Lounge: This is a vibrant place in the Dells located at the Kalahari Resort. Live music, gorgeous fiery red décor, and a cotton candy cocktail perhaps? Sure can’t go wrong here.

The Kilbourn Cork: A cute wine bar that also serves all sorts of cocktails and bite-sized food. Since it’s located in the middle of downtown Wisconsin Dells, it’s hard to miss! Our server, Jonathan, was super personable and even shared some fun bourbon facts with us!

Showboat Saloon: If you are looking for dance music, a lively crowd, and a retro-themed pub, then you are in the right place. They tend to have live music, so it makes for a fun stop during your visit.

Where To Have A Wine Tasting?

Our favorite topic is wine, so we had to check out as many wineries as possible during our stay. Each winery is unique, which makes for a cool experience while sampling tasty varietals.

Fawn Creek Winery: Located in the forests of Dell Prairie and offering $5 wine tastings, this winery should not be missed. The staff were super knowledgeable and friendly. We would love to come back here in the summer months since they have live bands on the weekends.

Balanced Rock Winery: Loved this place! You cannot go wrong when you can have wine AND eat some amazing food. It’s located right by Devil’s Lake State Park, so it makes for a nice spot after doing some hiking.

Bevy Brewery & Winery: Now, this spot is a winery and a brewery, so if you like both, then this is a must do. Most of it is a self-serve tap, so you can try everything they have to offer.

Baraboo Bluff Winery: Not only do they offer refreshing and crispy wines, the views of the Bluffs are so awesome! Regardless of the weather, you will be sure to enjoy yourself when sitting outdoors and sipping on their wines.

Broken Bottle Winery: This is the sister winery to Baraboo Bluff that offers great wine and fun activities. You can do a wine tasting and enjoy their outdoor patio next to big antique and craft malls.

What To Do?

Kalahari Resort Indoor Waterpark: Even if you are not staying at the resort, you can still purchase a day pass and enjoy all the slides and everything this massive waterpark has to offer. Whether you are coming with family or friends, you will surely feel like a kid again!

Wizard Quest: Not going to lie: we had no idea what to expect, but this activity turned out to be the best part of our stay! You are given a tablet upon entrance, and as you explore the grounds you are solving different riddles and quests. It was so awesome to see everyone so engaged. We loved how creative this place is!

Asgard Axe & Tap: Super fun activity for all (if you dare :))! Stop by to enjoy a couple of drinks and compete against your friends to see who can hit the bullseye. They have live music on weekends too, so we recommend reserving a spot for axe throwing.

Where To Hike?

Roche-A-Cri State Park: Many trails and very well-maintained state park. Climb the 303 stairs if you want to see the best views of the surrounding area.

Devil’s Lake State Park: One of the most visited parks in the Wisconsin Dells area. If you hike anywhere, make sure you do the Balanced Rock trail. It is a bit strenuous, so just take your time.

Mirror Lake State Park: This lake has the most beautiful reflection of the woods and the bluffs (hence its name). There are plenty of trails, so there’s room for everyone to enjoy serene views and sounds during their nature hike.
